Roger Carlson
~ Award Winning Artist
Biography
Roger Carlson currently lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado and works full time as an artist. His subjects range from Western landscapes to European themes.
The soft light style of his paintings is influenced by his travels throughout Europe with specific emphasis on Germany, France and Italy. The Renaissance painters drew his attention early on, and he took the opportunity to study them first hand during several years he spent in Europe. Adding to his European experiences, he traveled to England in 2002 and Portugal in 2004 to work plein air.
Both a studio and plein air painter, Roger has studied under well-known Colorado artists and during the past several years, he has developed an innovative technique using oil washes over a pure pigment base to magnify the light effects in his paintings.
Roger is a member of the Oil Painters of America. He produces works for private collections throughout the United States. Achievements include numerous show awards in Colorado; displays in Washington, D.C. and Virginia galleries; showings in Mid-west galleries, with a number of one-man shows in Colorado.
Roger Carlson received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bradley University, and subsequently received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska. Raised in an Illinois farm community, Roger is naturally drawn to the beauty of nature and landscapes. He started his art career early doing commission painting in watercolor and inks, but found great enjoyment in capturing nature through the use of oils
